When trying to translate English to Malay online there are many different options to choose from. The most common choice would be to use Google translate and many regard it to be the best but this may not be so. Really it depends what exactly you wish to use the translation for. If you are simply looking for a Malay translation of English to understand the context or 'gist' to the text then this may be good enough. As Malay may be one of the world’s most spoken languages you would be surprised to find how little online support there really is for the language. Bar Google Translate, an excellent service and improving each and every day, I have personally found it difficult to find any other service to match its quality. But really, it is and only will be a machine translator and is limited by this very fact. In other cases though, where you need a more exact translation online translation tools, or machine translators may not do the job as well as a human translator. There are many reasons why an English to Malay translation, carried out by an online service would not be up to the level of quality required by the user but the most common on would be for use in either documentation or web content. Also different dialects of Malay, such as that spoken in the southern Malay Peninsula (also the official language of Indonesia) may differ considerably from that spoken in Malaysia (called Baba Malay). If these differences are important it would be unwise to use a free translator online as small nuances in the language, in addition to machine translation errors could be critical. Additionally, the actual application of the translation (i.e. where it may be used) would further necessitate the involvement of a human translator. For example, the specific requirements of marketing material would differ greatly from a translation meant to be used in a manual or a technical document. Only a correctly trained linguist would really know the difference and make the English to Malay translation sound natural. In summary, the translation of English to Malay may seem like a simple ‘point and click’ task (and in many cases it is) but depending on where and for what you will use the translation the type of translation used, regardless of it being human or machine, is critical. There are many options out there for translating Malay from English, just make sure you use the correct one for the job. |
